Memorial dedication is Sunday

Posted

The Station Fire Memorial, built at the site of The Station nightclub that burned Feb. 20, 2003, to claim the lives of 100 concert goers will be dedicated this Sunday with music starting at 1 p.m. and a formal ceremony at 2 p.m. The memorial is a culmination of a years' long effort to transform the nightclub site on Cowesett Avenue in West Warwick into an enduring memorial by the Station Fire Memorial Foundation headed by fire survivor Gina Russo. Russo co-chaired the campaign with former Gov. Donald Carcieri to raise more than $2 million in cash and material contributions to build the park. The dedication ceremony will include prayers, music and remarks from officials and those who worked to make the memorial a reality. As parking is limited at the park, parking with a shuttle bus from Metropolitan Life Auto and Home on Route 2 in Warwick is being provided. Crews are working on finishing touches to the park including brickwork, railings and plantings. (Warwick Beacon photos).
