(Based on terrorist attack on U.S. compound)
If you don’t think that modern warfare is hell, see this movie and then decide. Assuming that much of it is true, we should be very concerned about what is going on halfway around the world.
Terrorists attacked the CIA compounds in Benghazi, where the CIA chief is slow to respond. Six GRS security contractors are frustrated with his reaction and finally head out to save the U.S. ambassador and his staff. We all know what happens to the ambassador.
The movie seems a bit over-the-top and overdramatic at times, with no attempt to hold back on the politics of the Obama administration. In the heat of battle, the Americans cannot tell who are the terrorists and who are the “friendlys,” making the situation unbearably dangerous.
John Krasinski gives a powerful performance as Boon Benton, a leader who knows he has to be there but yearning to get home safely to his wife and children.
There’s lots of action, explosions and gunfire to hold your interest for nearly two and a half hours. Some of the dialogue seems a bit corny at times, but the writers never hesitate to place blame.
Rated R with violence and profanity.
