The Cranston Police Department hosted Cranston Family Safety Day for the sixth consecutive year on Saturday, May 16 at Garden City Center.
Fire and bicycle safety instruction, children’s crafts, samples from b. good and Edible Arrangements, Sundaes ice cream, free car seat safety checks, tours of a fire truck and the distribution of free bicycle helmets for the first 500 children were just a few of the 20 attractions available.
The Cranston Substance Abuse Task Force provides funding for after-school programs at the middle schools, parenting groups, summer programs and more, all with the goal of protecting and educating the citizens of Cranston. Dana DeVerna is the director of the task force.
It was a bittersweet day for K-9 officer Bosco, as he is retiring from the force shortly.
There were 30 students from Cranston East on hand to help out and to community service hours.
“Garden City is always proud and happy to partner with our community neighbors. This is our sixth year of working together to keep our children and their families safe,” said Janice Pascone, marketing director for Garden City.
