A fond farewell

Posted

Roughly three years ago, I was granted an opportunity rare in my profession – serving as the editor of my hometown newspaper.

After several years working at The Gardner News, a daily publication in North Central Massachusetts, I arrived at Beacon Communications to oversee the editorial operations of the weekly Cranston Herald and Johnston Sun Rise newspapers.

As a Cranston native, I was excited to be back home, and to cover these communities for which I have such affection. I have since had the privilege of keeping my neighbors informed on important issues and events, and the chance to share the stories of countless others who care deeply about their community and have made remarkable accomplishments in a range of fields and endeavors. I have gained a fresh and uncommon perspective on the place where I grew up, and seen anew the wonderful spirit of its people.

Now, another opportunity calls. Starting next week, I will be moving on to become editor of The Independent newspaper in South County. I am honored to be joining another publication with a tradition of excellence, and look forward to serving the communities of Narragansett, North Kingstown, and South Kingstown.

To all those who have read the Herald and Sun Rise over the last three years, thank you for your interest and support. To the staff of Beacon Communications, it has been an absolute pleasure to work alongside you. I would particularly like to thank John Howell, our publisher, for having faith in me and providing the opportunity to work at this great company.

My best wishes to all for a safe and happy holiday season.
