On Monday, May 23, Jake the Cat, accompanied by Maddie Grimaldi, visited the second-graders at Chester Barrows Elementary School to deliver greetings from Cat Country 98.1 and to do some reading in celebration of Reading Week.
Grimaldi read aloud two baseball-themed books. The first was Jerry Remy’s “Wally the Green Monster and His Journey through Red Sox Nation,” which took the students on a visual tour of well known landmarks such as the Freedom Trail, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Mystic Seaport, Paul Revere’s house, and of course, to a Boston Red Sox game.
Grimaldi also read “Bats at the Ballgame,” by Brian Lies, an author who actually visited Chester Barrows School for Reading Week in 2011 with his batty books. The book featured a rhyming story that kept the students on the edge of their seats as the bats played an exciting game of “batball.”
At the end of the read-aloud, Jake and Grimaldi posed for photos with both second-grade classes and with Principal Katrina Pillay. (Text and photo by Jen Cowart)
