Airport board to name new president/CEO at Thursday meeting

The Rhode Island Airport Corporation board of directors is expected to name a president and CEO of the agency this Thursday.

A vote on the leader of the state’s five airports is on the board’s meeting agenda.

The board launched a search soon after Kelly J. Fredericks announced at a January RIAC board meeting that he had accepted the job of chief executive officer for the Ontario International Airport Authority in California, based about 35 miles east from Los Angeles. He left RIAC this past March.

Peter Frazier, RIAC legal counsel and senior vice president, assumed the role of interim president during the search and was one of two finalists for the post. Reportedly, he was not selected and the candidate who is being recommended to the board is from out of state. The Beacon was told his name would not be disclosed until the meeting Thursday.

Jonathan Savage, chair of the RIAC board, could not be reached for comment, but in an interview before Frederick’s departure he said he was looking for someone who brings stability, understands the airline industry, and is a champion of Green’s marketing efforts.

“We’re looking forward, and that’s important,” he said.

    Dear Justanidiot,

I am the least qualified candidate for the RIAC but thank you for the thought anyway. I always look forward to your comments. Keep them coming.

    Dear Justanidiot,

You got me. I should have been clearer. I believe that I am fully qualified to negotiate on behalf of the Warwick taxpayers, but as far as representing the RIAC, I will leave that side up to them. (I did, however, say "the least qualified candidate for the RIAC")

    Happy Autumn good friend.
