Angela San Antonio, a Cranston-native who suffers from Developmental Coordination Disorder, competed on a team in the CLCF girls' soccer league this past fall. The youth league opened San Antonio with open arms and the experience was an all-around success.

She had never participated in any team sports and her parents were hesitant to put her into a situation that might be too challenging or confusing for her. Because her older brother William was joining a CLCF soccer league, she requested that she could also play in a girls' league.

"I want to express my deep appreciation and provide high commendation for coach Todd and assistant coach Dave for their work with the team," said Bill San Antonio, Angelina's father. "Most especially, I was impressed with their patience and perseverance with my daughter, who has had developmental delays all her life and physically still has challenges. These coaches were able to quickly adjust their expectations of my daughter and to help the other team members do the same."

Angelina San Antonio, without knowing anything about soccer, made a great deal of progress during the season. She is a model athlete in that she demonstrated much courage and willingness to exert herself beyond her typical limitations. The experience at CLCF was enriching for her and her family.

The Cranston CLCF Athlete of the Month is selected by CLCF.
