When members of BASICS - Benefiting All Students In Cranston Schools - have a snow day off and they find out a special Sled-a-Thon was going on at Cranston High School West; they dressed for winter and brought sleds, tubes and even snowboards out. Kerri Kelleher and her husband, Pete, through the BASICS Facebook page, organized the event. Word traveled fast and approximately 50 BASICS members attended last Friday.
They had a Slugfest a few years back on a day that school was canceled, but the roads were safe later in the day for people to be out. It is something that they enjoyed previously, and thought it would be great to bring it back and start a new tradition. Pete Kelleher brought a generator and played music to the delight of BASICS members who attended. If this winter weather pattern continues they hope to do it again soon, and to be able to add some hot cocoa and even more snacks and treats.
