'Brew at the Zoo' to feature local beers

Roger Williams Park Zoo wants people to “tap in to their wild side” at the Brew at the Zoo beer-tasting event on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Guests at this new fundraising event will sample over 100 craft beers from 50 of the area’s finest brewers. Please note that the zoo will close to the public at 2 p.m. on the day of Brew at the Zoo to prepare for the event, with the last admission at noon.

Guests will enjoy sampling craft beers from popular local breweries like the Trinity Brewhouse, Foolproof Brewing Company, Bucket Brewery, Green Flash, Lagunitas and many more. In addition to beer tastings, partygoers will enjoy encounters with the zoo’s education animals and live music, and everyone will leave with a commemorative “Brew at the Zoo” glass.

Entertainment for the evening includes musicians Mike Provenzano and Brian Jarvis providing acoustic cover music, performer Rick Adam as a four-stilted animal character interacting with guests, and a five-member Bavarian Hofbrau Band in festive Bavarian attire playing authentic German music.

Tickets to the 21-plus event are $50 per person for beer-tasting and $25 per person for designated drivers, who may not consume alcohol during the event. All proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the zoo’s education and conservation programs, and zoo improvements.

For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.rwpzoobrew.org or email zoobrew@rwpzoo.org. Tickets are sold online, and will be available on the day of the event only if they do not sell out in advance.

Due to the presence of alcoholic beverages, no children or infants will be admitted.
