CLCF 10’s start hot, grab a pair of victories at regionals

The 2014 Cal Ripken Babe Ruth League 10U New England Regional Tournament got under way Friday at Sawyer Park hosted by Exeter, N.H. 

On Saturday, CLCF squared off against Quincy, Mass. and pulled out a 7-5 victory.

Alex Marot started on the mound for CLCF. Quincy got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first, taking a 1-0 lead. 

The CLCF offense came on in the top of the third inning, as Evan Dacey led off with a hit by pitch, Ruben Fernandez followed with a double, Preston Kermen hit a two-run double, Matthew Barbarino got a single, Andrew Travieso bunted for a hit and Alex Marot hit a two-run double. 

In the top of the fourth, CLCF scored on a hit by Cole Carbone, a walk by RJ Fatorma, a walk by Fernandez, a RBI hit by Kermen and a sacrifice fly by Owen Smith. Quincy scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but in the top of the fifth Marot got a double and scored on a RBI hit by Tyler DiNezza.  DiNezza also came in to pitch in the fourth inning to close out the game.

The next day, CLCF played Seacoast, N.H. and picked up a 12-3 win.

CLCF got the place cheering in the top of the first inning, as Barbarino led off with a base hit, Travieso followed with a bunt single and Marot capped the early surge with three-run home run. 

Preston Kermen got the start for CLCF on the mound, and Seacoast got to him for two runs in the bottom of the first. 

In the top of the second, Travieso singled, Marot did the same, and DiNezza and Carbone had RBI singles. In the fourth inning, Marot led of with a single, DiNezza had a single, Carbone a two-run double, Fernandez walked, Kermen was hit by pitch and Fatorma an RBI hit.  

Travieso came in to pitch in the middle of the fourth inning and to close out the game, and finished the job.

CLCF also added an exclamation point to its scoring in the sixth, as Fatorma led off with a hit by a pitch, Dacey walked, Jacob Chin got a bunt single and Barbarino walked, scoring Fatorma.

CLCF’s next game was scheduled for Tuesday against regional host Exeter, N.H., with the results unavailable at press time.
