Cranston League for Cranston’s Future has announced the 2012 winners of its annual Leo J. Castiglioni Jr. Scholarship. Five awards are being handed out, two to students from Cranston East, two from Cranston West and one from the NEL/CPS Construction Career Academy.
From Cranston East, the scholarship winners are Erin Torres and Brandon Nelson. From Cranston West, the winners are Patrick McAssey and Stephen Albro. And from the NEL/CPS Construction Career Academy, the scholarship winner is Stephanie Casale.
The scholarships are dedicated to the founder of CLCF and have been established to celebrate his life and to honor representative Cranston High School graduating seniors who emulate the community service, civic dedication and selflessness of character that Castiglioni displayed in his life.
Castiglioni founded CLCF as a youth sports organization in 1953. He remained an active volunteer and member of the board of directors for the next 50 years until his death on July 11, 2002. Tens of thousands of children have benefited from his dedication and service to the community.
