CLCF to hold walkathon, home run derby for a great cause

On Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at Brayton Park in Cranston, CLCF softball and baseball will host a walkathon and home run derby to raise money for a little boy named Jax Marocco and his family.

Born on Sept. 14, 2014, to his parents Tori and Mark, it was determined after two surgeries that Jax had a rare and terminal genetic disease called Niemann-Pick type A, which eventually swells the organs and they’ll become too big for his body.

The walkathon and home run derby were put together in order to raise money for Tori and Mark to aid for Jax’s therapy and other medical expenses. Solely constructed by CLCF President Jonathan Wild, David Feole and the board members at CLCF, the motive is to help Mark and Tori give Jax the best quality of life that they can.

Currently, Jax is doing wonderfully and this will undoubtedly help Jax to enjoy a happy childhood.

Mark and Tori are overwhelmed by the support that the league has showed them in organizing this event.

“I would like to thank Jonathan Wild and David Feole for everything they are doing to organize this for our son,” Mark Marocco said. “I just appreciate everyone in CLCF for everything that they are doing – board members, parents, kids. It is very overwhelming the amount of support and love that me and my wife are receiving. We honestly can’t put into words how thankful we are for everyone who is helping.”

The walkathon will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., with the home run derby to follow. Anyone is welcome to enter the contest, but the entry fee is $20 for the home run derby.

Other than that, the proceeds will be solely donation based. Those who wish to donate can do so at the event, with the option to pledge a certain amount of money per lap for the walkathon.

All donations will go directly to medical expenses for Jax, with any excess money being donated to the Niemann-Pick Foundation to help conduct research on this rare disease.
