The Cranston National Budlong 9/10’s dropped the Little League Softball Eastern Region Championship, 8-7, to Delaware after stranding the tying run at third base in the final inning.
The Rhode Island representative had to rally back across four innings in the title game, and had comeback experience from its semifinal bout with New York. CNB had to fight its way back before, edging New York in a 5-4 victory.
CNB had a much easier time in pool play. The Rhode Island squad was the top seed in the New England bracket after defeating its three opponents (Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts) by a combined score of 31-6.
The group was told that their second-place finish was the highest any Cranston National team has ever placed in baseball or softball in its 57 years as a Little League program.
