The Cranston West girls’ tennis team couldn’t get past undefeated Prout at home on Thursday, dropping the match, 7-0, to fall to 9-3 in Division II-B.
West freshman Isabella Corso competed as the Falcons’ No. 1 singles player and got off to a good start before Crusaders’ sophomore Elizabeth Duffy took control, as she was able to cruise to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
Lily Janigian won the first set of her match, 7-6, in a tiebreak, but Hannah Shapiro would battle back to take the next two sets 6-3, 7-6 to clinch another point for Prout.
West wouldn’t have any luck in the third or fourth singles matches either, with Shannon Feng and Alice Lim dropping their No. 3 and No. 4 singles matchups in straight sets.
The Falcons’ top doubles team of Ava Caliri and Mimi Ji fell by a score of 6-4, 7-5, and the pairing of Lauren Knasin and Jackie Carrascoza dropped the No. 2 doubles match by an identical score.
Prout would complete the sweep with a 6-0, 6-1 win for Ellie Eng and Lucy Botelho over Rachael Perrotta and Morgan DiMaio.
Although West endured the loss, it’s still in a great spot in second place in Division II-B.
The Falcons were set to travel to Chariho (3-8) on Tuesday for a favorable matchup with the Chargers, but results were unavailable at press time. They will also host Narragansett (4-7) today at 3:30 p.m.
