To the Editor:
As members of the City Council, we are asking that the administration monitor the major utilities’ work on city roads. We are displeased with the condition of roads throughout the city.
Driving around the city, we are appalled at the “hatchet job” the major utilities are doing to our streets. One example is Budlong Road, which is now a mess. The utilities carve up the street and leave patchwork that is of poor quality. Streets in the garden hills neighborhood are patched on one side of the road, which is a bad joke.
Sections of Pippin Orchard Road as well as Orchard Valley Drive are deplorable. The residents of our city pay taxes and have every reason to expect to be able to travel on quality roads.
The city owns the streets, and we ask the Public Works Department keep a close eye on this shoddy work and to make sure their work is properly inspected.
Council Vice President Richard Santamaria
Ward 4 Councilman Mario Aceto
