El Cilantro Mexican Grill captured the Cranston 13-year-old Babe Ruth house league championship two weeks ago with a 7-6 win over Cranston Teacher’s Union in the final game.

Cilantro, which finished in fifth place in a five-team league thanks to a 4-11-1 regular season, caught fire in the postseason, winning four consecutive games en route to the title.

First, it defeated fourth-place Webster Bank 12-6 before upsetting top-seeded Action Auto Body 4-3 in 10 innings. Next, it beat Cranston Teacher’s Union 4-3 to set up the championship game against the same time, and Cilantro rallied from a 6-2 deficit to cap its Cinderella run.

The team’s regular season co-MVP’s were Zachary Cole and Jamie Pacheco, while its playoff MVP’s were Jake Gardner and Evan Smith.
