Comedy show supports Aceto’s bid for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Man of the Year honors

On Thursday, March 19, the stage at the Park Theatre played host to six of the area’s funniest comedians. They joined together to support their friend and colleague, Ace Aceto, in his second attempt to win the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man of the Year competition.

With close to 300 people in attendance, the room was treated to performances from Cranston natives MaryEllen DePetrillo Rinaldi and John Perrotta, as well as local comedy icons Charlie Hall and Joe Hebert. Ace’s special guests for the night were Kerri Louise from “Last Comic Standing” and her husband, Rhode Island native Tom Cotter, who placed second in season seven of “America’s Got Talent.”

A special guest to the stage was KJ Ricci, the Boy of the Year for the LLS.

KJ loved being on stage, and actually was skipping to the car and singing because he couldn’t wait, said his mother, Tammy Ricci.

“Ace is super funny and always makes me laugh,” KJ said. “He’s such a great person for running for [Man of the Year] for LLS because he really wants to reach his goal of $50,000, and he’s willing to have run twice to make it happen.”

KJ loved that Ace asked him to be on stage.

“I liked telling a joke to have made people laugh. It was really exciting,” he said.

KJ told a few jokes before handing the microphone over to Perrotta and reminding him “not to screw it up.”

“It’s great to see all of their unique qualities shine through to raise as much funds as possible so there are no children like KJ that have to experience what he did,” Tammy said. “KJ in 10 weeks’ time will probably have attended at least 25 events. We’ve been very busy, but truly want to support each candidate as they are working so tirelessly to make this a successful campaign for LLS. Giving back is just something we are so passionate about, and this was the main reason for KJ accepting being Boy of the Year.”

After the performances, guests who purchased VIP tickets were treated to a meet-and-greet with the comedians, as well as a catered reception from the Catering Gourmet.

“My friend since high school, Dave Goulart, donated all the food for the meet-and-greet. My comedy friends who are more like family donated all their time. I couldn’t be more grateful or amazed at how many people are willing to support such a great cause. I love all of these people,” Aceto said.
