Country artist Darius Rucker set to perform at Big E

Known by many as the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and soulful, gritty voice of Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker brings his flair and talent to The Big E’s Comcast Arena Stage on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:30 p.m. The show is ticketed at $39/$29 and tickets will go on sale July 1 at www.TheBigE.com, The Big E Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.

Rucker is nothing short of magnificent as he shifts genres from his familiar rock roots, to planting a seed in the country music industry. Channeling his South Carolina roots, he released his first solo country album, the now platinum Learn to Live, in 2008. The album produced three number one singles on the Billboard Country Chart: “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” “It Won’t Be Like This For Long” and “Alright.” His sophomore album, Charleston, SC 1966, was released in 2010 and hit number one on the Top Country Albums chart within the first week of its debut. His latest single from that album is “I Got Nothin.’”

In 2009, The 43rd Annual Country Music Awards recognized Rucker for his success in country music, awarding him the Top New Artist title, as well as a nomination for Best Male Vocalist.

Although different from the bluesy-rock sound that fans of Rucker are accustomed to, as the saying goes, “Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.” He may have traded in his electric guitar for a pair of cowboy boots, but critics say his rugged baritone is “like hearing an old friend.” After the enormous success of Hootie and the Blowfish, it’s not surprising that Rucker’s genre change is converting rock lovers into country music lovers everywhere.

At 42 years old, Rucker claims, “I’m not going to write many songs about drinking, chasing girls…I’m going to write songs about having kids and stuff – songs about life.”

The Big E takes place Sept. 16 through Oct. 2 in West Springfield, Mass. For more information, be sure to visit TheBigE.com, join the mailing list, like them on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, or call 413-205-5115.
