Courthouse Center hottest venue in Rhode Island

Rising like the Phoenix from arts oblivion, Kingston’s Courthouse Center for the Arts is quickly becoming the hottest entertainment venue in Rhode Island.

We’ll be there this Saturday at 8 p.m. for what at this writing looks like a sellout crowd for singer Rita Coolidge, two-time Grammy winner and one of the biggest entertainers to come out of the folk era.

Before that, Charlie Hall brings his popular Drink and Dabble to the historic building (Thursday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m.), where Rhode Island’s funny man will serve you food and drinks while he teaches you how to paint.

The following evening, Friday, June 4 at 8 p.m., “Through the Doors,” the Doors tribute band, will entertain beginning at 8 p.m.

July is shaping up to be a busy month with entertainment being added almost daily, beginning with Milagro, a Santana Tribute Band, on Saturday, July 2 at 8 p.m. The following Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m., Back in Black, the AC/DC tribute band, will perform.

One of the better and more popular Elvis impersonators, Robert Black, will bring his show to the Courthouse on Friday, July 15 at 7 p.m., followed by one of the hottest comedians on the circuit these days, Kevin Meany, on Saturday, July 16, at 8 p.m.

Wrapping up a busy weekend, Not Fade Away, a show featuring Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens impersonators, will follow the smash hit “The Buddy Holly Story” that recently played Theatre-by-the-Sea on Sunday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m.

Most shows are reasonably priced in the $22 to $30 range. For more information, go online at info@courthousecenter.org or call 782-0181.

Courthouse Center For the Arts is a hop, skip and a jump from Cranston and Warwick at 3481 Kingston Road (Route 138), located in the beautiful historic old courthouse.
