On Thursday, May 14 in the Cranston High School East auditorium, seniors were presented with awards, honors and scholarships rewarding all their hard work over the past four years.

Following the processional and presentation of the colors by the Cranston East JROTC Color and Honor Guards, Briana Stewart of the class of 2017 sang the national anthem.

East Principal Sean Kelly welcomed all the guests on the stage and in the audience.

“Academic convocation is one my favorite nights we celebrate,” he said. “Seniors are rewarded for their hard work in classrooms. The scholarships are their just rewards.”

Kelly thanked his faculty and staff for their work.

“Thank you for what you do every day,” he said. “The results are sitting here, right in front of us.”

Over $110,000 was given out at convocation, and the graduating class as a whole has received more than $1.7 million in financial aid.

Assistant Superintendent Jeannine Nota-Masse, Mayor Allan Fung and School Committee Vice Chair Stephanie Culhane also offered congratulations to the students. Assistant Principal Joe Potemri acted as the evening’s emcee.
