Cranston YMCA: Building strong and healthy families

Posted

It is a typical mid-winter's day and the lobby of the Cranston YMCA is bustling with activity. A group of teenage athletes with their basketballs in tow hustles down to the "Y's" newly completed gymnasium. A businessman totes his bag of workout clothes to the Wellness Center for his lunch break exercise routine. A "Silver Sneaker" woman is perspiring to the beat of Zumba music upstairs while the treadmills are running non-stop in the rooms below. In the sun-lit pool, all six lanes are filled with swimmers doing their daily laps. And the recreation area of the nearby CCAP building is abuzz with shrieks of laughter as school breakers anticipate a jump in the inflatable bouncy castle. There is space for everyone here at the busy Cranston YMCA, because that is how the YMCA is designed - for everyone.

Whether you are an active mother or father on-the-go, or a high school baseball player refining his skills, or a senior citizen looking for a place to socialize and stay in shape - then the Cranston YMCA has something for you. Based on the age-old values of honesty, responsibility, respect and caring, the YMCA has a mission - to build strong families, to be a bridge to the broader community, to nurture healthy bodies and to develop resilient and valiant characters. Come to the Cranston YMCA today and see for yourself what it has to offer.

The Cranston YMCA, part of the Greater Providence YMCA family, is conveniently located on Park Avenue. Many don't know that the facilities at the "Y" span 65,000 square feet - including the newly renovated gymnasium, a full-length pool, numerous workout rooms, classrooms (equipped with computers) for after-school care, playgrounds and common areas. On any given day, you will find upwards of 150 children here at the "Y", and in the summer, that number swells to nearly 300 as children throughout the region participate in the "Y's" summer camp programs on their 25-acre day camp facility in Johnston, the popular Camp Massasoit.

The staff here are all highly trained and certified, not only by National Certification Standards, but by the "Y's" extensive training requirements. They are friendly, courteous and enthusiastic, but most importantly, they embody the "Y's" philosophy of healthy spirits, minds, and bodies.

The list of program offerings for people of all ages is long and varied. From musical instrument instruction, to exercise classes like yoga and Pilates, to swim lessons, to support groups for cancer survivors, to pre-season sports sessions, to after-school care - there is ALWAYS something going on at the "Y".”

If you are looking for an exceptional place to bring your family, then come visit the Cranston YMCA on 1225 Park Avenue, call 943-0444 or visit their website at cranstonymca.org for more information. The YMCA is open seven days a week - so stop on by for a tour! You will be amazed.
