Cranston YMCA: Register now for summer camp

Posted

The calendar says that summer is exactly 55 days from today. In 55 days, on June 21st (the first day of summer), the Cranston Schools are officially dismissed! Finally, we will have sunny days and green grass and leafy trees and time for fun. Parents everywhere are starting to make boredom-busting plans for these long-awaited days, and their search begins at one place, the Cranston YMCA.

The Cranston YMCA is home to the best summer programs and camps in Rhode Island, beginning on their 65,000 square foot campus on Park Avenue and extending to the grassy fields of Camp Massasoit. Camp Massasoit, a sprawling 25-acre campground in nearby Johnston (7 short miles from their Cranston location) has hosted the "Y's" summer camps for years and has been the source of some of the happiest summer memories a child could have. While embracing the "Y's" philosophy of building strong and healthy spirits, minds, and bodies, it is a place of adventure, discovery, exercise, friendships and pure fun.

Summer is all about the freedom to play, run, swim, create and make lasting friendships while you bask in the sun, or chase a soccer ball, or swim a lap, or perform in a drama. The "Y's" camp programs reflect the diverse interests of its many participants - from computer and music camps to every kind of sport, from baseball to flag football. There is literally something for every child for whom sitting around the house all day is the LAST way they want to spend their few carefree days of summer.

Now is the time to register for summer camp at the Cranston YMCA. While day camp services are provided year round, these summer camp programs are popular, affordable and fill up fast! You can go online to see the menu of programs available here, but the best thing to do is to stop by the "Y's" facilities on Park Avenue to ask questions and register your children.

Did you know that, along with the amazing facilities and programs at the Cranston "Y", their competitive swim team just leapt from 7th in the state to 5th in the state? Now that is impressive. In recent competitions, two of their swimmers raced their way into national competitions, and 21 went on to regional contests. The "Y's" sparkling, full-length and six-lane pool is the perfect place for both recreational swimming and swim lessons, but it is also the training ground for this accomplished swim team. Never underestimate what a program like the "Y", with its core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, can do for your child.

Start planning for your summer! Visit the Cranston YMCA on 1225 Park Avenue, call 943-0444 or visit them at cranstonymca.org for more information. The YMCA is open seven days a week - so come for a tour. You will simply be amazed.
