On July 27, Cranston resident David Principe Jr. earned All-American honors at the USTFA Junior Olympic National Championships in Baltimore Maryland. Principe, qualified to compete in the seeded heat of the 3,000 meters by winning the New England championship and finishing second in the regional competition. Running his finest race of the season, Principe finished second at the national event in a personal best time of 9:14.03.
The performance capped off a big outdoor track season for Principe, who was the Rhode Island middle school champion in the 3,000 and in the 800. Principe is an honor student and will be entering eighth grade at Western Hills Middle School in the fall.
