Epic Theater kicks off summer with outrageous and uproarious ‘Bedroom Plays’

Epic Theatre is celebrating sunny days and summer nights with the wildest show it’s ever put on. Twenty-eight actors, 10 directors and one playwright are coming together to bring you the biggest theatrical event of the summer.

“The Bedroom Plays” is made up of 10 short comedic plays about love, sex, friendship and what people do behind closed doors – but there’s a catch.  Each play gets progressively racier, and after each show, the audience is given the choice to leave the theater or stick around if they think they can handle what comes next.

“We’re always looking to examine a traditional genre in a new way,” says Epic artistic director Kevin Broccoli, “and this is a way for us to tackle a few all at once.  The Bedroom Plays is part farce, part play festival, and partly insane. Theaters do far-out shows all the time, but this is the only example I can think of where a theater is actually putting forth a challenge to the audience: Can you do all ten? It also takes the summer shows we’ve been doing for the past six years and takes them to a whole new level. We’ve assembled some of the best talent in the state to put on a show that I think is going to be provocative, unique and incredibly entertaining.”

The Bedroom Plays are being presented at Mixed Magic Theater, where Epic is settling in for a two-show summer.

“We have a great relationship with our RITA colleagues at Mixed Magic,” says Broccoli, “and I personally love getting to travel to different spaces around the state. It keeps our work fresh and helps build relationships and audiences in other communities.”

Broccoli has lined up 10 different directors in addition to himself to helm the plays, including Mixed Magic artistic director Jonathan Pitts-Wiley, Out Loud Theatre’s artistic director Kira Hawkridge, Joanne Fayan, Jill Jones, Kate Lester, Tom Chace, Shannon McLoud, Jennifer White and Tammy Brown.

The Bedroom Plays runs Friday and Saturday nights from July 8 to July 23.  Tickets will be available on Mixed Magic’s website at mmtri.com. Mature audiences only (18 and over).
