A bit of running banter at Cranston Fire Department Station 3 on Cranston Street has resulted in a $3,384 donation to Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Pvt. Mark Bouchard of Engine 3, second platoon, last week had his mustache – a facial fixture since his teenage years – shaved off by Michael Cardillo at Gent’s Barbershop in Chapel View after members of Cranston Fire Fighters Local 1363 raised the money through small donations, well exceeding their original goal. Lt. Todd McGill said the question of what it would take to get Bouchard to shave his mustache has been a running joke for years. “I finally said, ‘What if I can raise $2,500?’” McGill recalled. Bouchard agreed, and the donation drive began. Bouchard’s wife Lisa, daughter Stacy and son Andrew were on hand to see the mustache shaved. “We’ve never seen him without a mustache, ever,” Stacy said. (Herald photos by Daniel Kittredge)
