Regarding the recent article, “Work begins for new restaurant, retail space at Garden City.”
The building was originally the Old Colony Co-operative Bank, which opened around July 1964. I was one of the original staff members. Donald Ahlgren (now deceased) was the first manager.
The federally insured savings and loan bank was very successful in Garden City. It was the seventh branch the bank had at that time. Our assets grew in three years what the powers to be said would take at least 10 years.
It was a joy to work there, which I did from 1964 to 1972.
