Gordon Albert “Shorty” James, 81 of Lincoln Avenue Cranston, a gifted musician, passed away

February 9, 2014 after injuries sustained by a hit and run driver.

Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Lionel Henry James and the late Mary Elizabeth (Whitney) James. He was the youngest of ten children. Mr. James was a Korean War veteran, serving with the 43rd. Signal Company of the 43rd. Infantry Division, with the Rank of Corporal. Shorty was a well-known musician playing the piano in the Rhode Island area. He is survived by a brother Charles T. James, and his wife, Marjorie James of Dean Avenue, Johnston.

Also two sisters, Susan E. Whitehead of Warwick and Lillian C. Hassett of Cranston R.I. He also leaves

behind several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George L. James, Louis L. James,

William V. James and Allen H. James. He was also the brother of the late Dorothy I. James and

Marjorie H. James. He was a communicant of People’s Baptist Church 1275 Elmwood Avenue, Cranston, where he played the piano at several services and occasions at the church.

There will be a celebration of his life at People’s Baptist Church on, Saturday March 22, 2014 beginning with a service at 11:00am. A full Military Honors at Veteran’s Cemetery, date and time to be announced.
