On Father’s Day, City Hall played host to a special gathering celebrating the release of poet and author Ana Arelys Cruz Cabrera’s new CD, “Anthem to the Fathers/Himno a los Padres,” as well as her latest book, “Inspiration of the Soul/Inspiracion del alma.” Cruz Cabrera and others provided poetry readings, while vocalist Laura Diaz Alberto also performed. The poetry and songs celebrate family themes, historical personalities, cities of Rhode Island and love. The gathering additionally served as a chance to honor fathers for their role in families and the community. Cruz Cabrera is the 2014 Recipient of the Rhode Island Latina Leadership Institute Alumni Award and the Keynote Speaker of the 2013 Dominican Independence and Heritage Award Committee of Rhode Island (DIHACRI). Among the dignitaries in attendance were Providence state Rep. Grace Diaz, Providence Councilwoman Sabina Matos and Carlos Lopez Estrada, chief of staff for Cranston Mayor Allan Fung.
