The Cranston East football team’s defense lived and died by Jay Bast, who earned a First Team All-State selection for his superb senior season.
East’s defense held opponents to 21 points or fewer on five occasions in 2015, but the offense couldn’t find much momentum along the way. The 2-6 record is hardly indicative of the fight the defense showed on a weekly basis, and Bast was the heart and soul.
His ability to rush the quarterback and the ball carrier seemed innate, and his return will be key for East this coming fall.
