Jerilyn’s Sewing School celebrates 8th year of handmade fashions

Posted

Jerilyn’s Sewing School students paraded up and down the stage of this year’s fashion show, holding up handmade masks to coordinate with this year’s masquerade theme, and showing off the dozens and dozens of clothing items they created over the past school year, many of which included Halloween costumes.

Owner Jerilyn Perry and her sister Susan Pagnozzi were this year’s co-hosts of the show, and many of Perry’s family members and friends worked tirelessly behind the scenes as well, creating the set, organizing the runway order of events, hanging display items, running the dress rehearsal, and collectively making the show run smoothly.

Each year, the show charges an admission fee of non-perishable food items, which are donated to the Rhode Island Food Bank. Anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation instead is welcome to do so, and the money is donated to the food bank as well.

According to Perry, this year the school collected 500 pounds of food and $487 in monetary donations, topping the total from previous years.

Jerilyn’s Sewing School is located at 254 East St. in Cranston and enrolls students from all over the state and nearby areas all throughout the year. Students work at their own pace on projects of their choosing as they move through the Kids Can Sew curriculum.
