Lawrence Bento, 83, of Mockingbird Lane, Tiverton, RI, formerly of Pawtucket, RI, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at the RI Veterans Home in Bristol, RI. He was the husband of Judith M. (Monteiro) Bento.
Born on August 25, 1931 in Tremes, Santarem, Portugal, he was the son of the late Julio and Rosalina Bento and came to the United States in 1945. Mr. Bento was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a National Guard Reservist and an Air Force Air Traffic Controller. He was a Quality Control Inspection Engineer at Electric Boat at Quonset Point for 20 years before retiring in 1995. He graduated from Roger Williams University in 1980 with a degree in Engineering. Lawrence was a member of Amicable Congregational Church in Tiverton.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Leonard M. Bento and his wife, Denise, of Cranston, RI; his grandchildren, Erika Bento Iafrate, Jillian Bento Nickerson, Leonard M. Bento, Jr., and Jennifer and Erin Lawson; and his great-grandchildren, Jordan and Jackson Nickerson. He was the father of the late Lawrence Bento, Jr. and the brother of the late Silverio and Argentina Bento.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 5:00-8:00 P.M. in Connors Funeral Home, 55 West Main Road, Portsmouth, RI. His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, RI
