OUT LOUD Theatre is participating in an interesting “Tour for Social Change” based on women and body image. Through a series of new collaborations, the theatre is presenting a “socially engaged theatre pilot” titled “This is Free Providence,” an annual festival of performance promoting dialogue around art.
Madeliene George’s “The Most Massive Woman Wins,” directed by Kira Hawkridge, will be performed on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the fourth-floor black box space of the Mathewson Street Theatre, located at 134 Mathewson St. in downtown Providence.
“The play tackles a topic that is not new information, but is often whispered about or avoided,” said Hawkridge. “Through this fresh and poignant script, you are swept up into the worlds of four very different women who find themselves at four similar crossroads.
“Exploring this influential and socially relevant story creates a unique opportunity to engage in an often difficult and always necessary conversation.”
Conversation talkbacks will follow the performance, which will be repeated at the Contemporary Theatre Company, 327 Main St. in South Kingstown on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 at 7 p.m.
Admission is free. Donations are welcomed.
