The Panera Bread at 5 New London Ave. in Cranston announces that it is inviting the public to help jump on board and support its “Raise the Dough” Ten Percent of Sales evening to benefit B’s Mobility Ride on Monday, Feb. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The first 100 customers who make a purchase toward the cause will receive a Mystery Panera Gift Card - limit to one gift card per customer and the customer must be present to receive the card - with values up to and including $200.

Ten percent of all the sales during the event’s two hours will go towards securing a wheelchair accessible van for the McDermott family of Warwick and, specifically, their eight-year-old son Benjamin who is afflicted with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a type of muscular dystrophy. A Cookie Decorating Station for families and raffle prizes will also be featured during the evening.

“Panera Warwick recently held a ‘Raise the Dough’ Preview Party which raised thousands of dollars for B’s Mobility Ride, so we decided to build on that momentum to improve Benjamin’s quality of life,” said Kimmy Rose, marketing manager at Panera Cranston. “Here at Panera Cranston, we focus on providing the very best experience for our guests while giving back to the community we serve. Benjamin is a neighbor in need so we wanted to do our part.”

Panera Bread’s overall mission is to help Benjamin and his family reach their goal with a variety of fundraising events that will be scheduled in the area. Rose said the next fundraiser for B’s Mobility Ride will be a book signing by bestselling New York Times author Jenna Blum at the Panera in East Greenwich on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

In addition to holding fundraisers for various local causes, Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group also enjoys a partnership with Feeding America, where all donations collected through its cafes’ ongoing Panera Cares Community Breadbox Program go directly to Feeding America member food banks. This program gives customers the opportunity to donate money at the register to support the local member food banks’ efforts to provide nutritious food to residents in need. This partnership is part of Panera Bread’s ongoing effort to combat the problem of hunger in America. In addition, for years Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group has donated all unsold bread and baked goods each night to local food pantries and other organizations that provide hunger relief through its Day-End Dough-Nation program.

Panera Bread/Howley Bread Group owns and operates a total of 28 bakery-cafes in Rhode Island (Cranston, Warwick, East Greenwich, Lincoln, Newport, Providence, Smithfield and Wakefield), Massachusetts (North Attleborough, North Dartmouth, Plainville and Seekonk) and Greater Hartford/Eastern, Connecticut (Bristol, Canton, Enfield, Farmington, Foxwoods, Glastonbury, Groton, Hartford, Lisbon, Manchester (2), Newington, Southington, Waterford, West Hartford and Wethersfield) markets.
