HIT AND RUN

Officer Ryan Shore reported an accident at Webster Avenue and Cranston Street on Jan. 14 around 5:30 p.m. A woman told him she was pulling away from a green light when she was hit by a red Honda. She said they both pulled over and the other driver said to pull into McDonald’s and she did, but when she looked back, the other car was gone.

Shore said the woman’s Toyota minivan had obvious but minor damage consistent with being sideswiped. She gave him the plate number for the Honda and other officers traced it to Francisco D. Quixan, 22, of 19 Gallup Ave. He was soon found at home and brought back to the scene. Shore said Quixan remarked that he left because he “didn’t think it was that big a deal.” He was arrested and later released with a summons for leaving the scene of an accident. The other driver got a ticket for not having proof of insurance.

SEE MY SISTER

Officer Austin Smith reported he was on patrol on Warwick Avenue around 1:15 a.m. Jan. 14 when he saw a car doing 10 miles per hour over the limit with a flat tire. He said he pulled it over and the woman driving said she was unaware that the car had a flat tire and said she was just giving her friend a ride home. Smith said he ran a check on the occupants and the passenger came back with an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a driving on a suspended license charge in Cranston.

Bryanna A. Hanson, 21, of 866 Warwick Ave. in Warwick, was arrested and taken to headquarters. He said she told him she was unaware of the warrant and said she thinks it was for her sister who has been using her name. She said her sister told her about the arrest in November and the missed court date in December. Smith said he questioned her more closely about what she was accusing her sister of and noticed that she was unsure of the spelling of her sister’s name and was unsure about when her birthday was. He said she filled out a statement about her sister nevertheless and insisted that it must have been her sister. A copy of her statement was filed with the report, but she was held for arraignment to plead her case then.

UNPLEASANT DUTY

Officer David Tirrell reported he was dispatched to the Cranston Police Training Academy on Phenix Avenue at around 10 a.m. Jan. 15. He said ACO David Lovejoy showed him an injured possum, which appeared, in his opinion, to have a broken back and a good deal of pain. Tirrell said he dispatched the animal with two shots and then went back on patrol.

NO PREACHING

Officer Salvador Sanchez reported he was dispatched to the Lowe’s store on Garfield Avenue around 1 p.m. Jan. 10 for a disturbance. He said he found a man who was preaching the word of God who was told to leave the store because his yelling was disturbing the customers. He said he asked the man to leave several times without success, but he continued to yell at the customers about their salvation. Sanchez said the man told him he was not going to stop preaching and was not leaving and would come back later if he were removed. Exanor Sannon, 22, of 17 West Harry St. in Cranston, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and held on a warrant for failure to appear for a driving on a suspended license charge.

RECKLESS

Officer Joshua Mason reported he was on a traffic post around 1:30 a.m. Jan. 13 when he clocked a car doing 72 on Route 10, where there is a limit of 50 miles per hour. He said he took off after the car and saw it swerving from side to side and suspected the driver was under the influence. He said the driver ignored the lights and siren and continued speeding off the highway onto Elmwood Avenue at around 75 miles per hour, and as he moved into Warwick they broke off the chase. He said they ran the license plate and traced it to a Warwick address. He said Warwick police invited them in to get the driver at 6 Lake Crest Circle and then called back to say they stopped the car on Post Road. Mason said he ordered the man out of the car and frisked him for weapons before arresting him for reckless driving. He said the man denied he had ever been in Cranston. Mason said the passenger in the car told him she was very upset by his driving and Mason said he could see she was shaking and pale and told him, “I was [expletive] my pants!” She said the driver refused her pleas for him to slow down and pull over. He said the man was disoriented and didn’t know where he was and reeked of alcohol. Chanthey Om, 32, of 85 Saw Mill Drive in North Kingstown, was arrested and taken to headquarters, where he refused to take a breath test. He was charged with refusal, reckless driving, DUI, speeding and aggressive driving.

911 CALL

Officer Jason Dagnese reported he was dispatched to an Eagle Road address around 9:45 p.m. Jan. 9 for a 911 hang up. He said he went to the address and was greeted at the door by a juvenile who told them his older brother and his brother’s girlfriend were fighting earlier and maybe one of them called 911. He said he went to check on the woman who had red eyes and looked like she had been crying. She said she had an argument and called the cops but it was just an argument. He said another man in the room would not make eye contact or tell him what he saw. He said he did see what looked like a hypodermic needle in plain sight with blood in the tube and a bag of white powder. He said it looked like heroin to him. He said the boyfriend and his male companion both admitted they were doing heroin and that the female did not know it was there. He said he asked if there was more contraband around and the man admitted there were more needles because he liked to have friends over to shoot up. He said he found 29 used needles under the bed. Jashlet Pinthiere, 20, of 81 Eagle Road was charged with possession of heroin and the drugs and needles were confiscated. The other adults were not charged.

SHOPLIFTING

Officer Wayne Russell reported arresting a shoplifting suspect at the Stop & Shop at 275 Warwick Ave. on Jan. 10. A loss prevention agent said he watched the woman go through the store filling reusable bags with assorted groceries and then walked out of the store without paying for anything. Julie French, 42, of 3 Wheeler Ave. in Cranston, was charged with stealing $249.69 worth of groceries. She was arrested and taken to headquarters, where she was charged with shoplifting and later released.
