SHE WAS A LAWYER

Officer Kim Carroll reported she was dispatched to the parking lot of Marshall’s on Oaklawn Avenue around 3:30 p.m. for a hit and run accident. A woman told her she was on the roadway of the parking lot when a car backed into her and then attempted to speed off but was blocked in. They said she pulled over but gave them only her name and begged them not to call the police and even offered them $2,000 not to do so. They said they told her to stay until police came but she drove off anyway.

Carroll said they traced the plate to 1562 Phenix Ave. She said they found the suspect car and verified recent damage. Carroll said the woman did not answer the door when they knocked, so she called her on the phone. She told her they were outside and she should come out. There was an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for sentencing for another driving on a suspended license charge in 2012. She said the woman came out and she was handcuffed. Carroll said she denied leaving without giving the other party her information and told Carroll that “she was a lawyer, and would never leave the scene of an accident.” Carroll said she then got upset and said she wanted to press charges against the other parties for assaulting her, claiming that they “pushed” her but didn’t elaborate any further. Lisa M. Butti, 49, of 1562 Phenix Ave. in Cranston, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, driving an unregistered vehicle, no proof of insurance and on the warrant for failure to appear.

SHUT OFF

Officer Jared Hardy reported he was dispatched to the Applebee’s on Midway Road Feb. 22 for a report of an intoxicated woman who was driving with two young kids in the car. Dispatch told him that the manager at Applebee’s refused to serve the woman and attempted to stop her from leaving before police got there, but she left anyway in a black Chrysler. Hardy said they traced the plate to 122 Harvard St. and found the car in the driveway. He said Francine Fisher, 45, of the same address, answered the door and it was apparent that she had been drinking, but she denied it. She said she took her kids to Applebee’s to eat but could not get a table so they sat at the bar. She said she ordered a drink and a short time later she was asked to leave, so she did.

Hardy learned that only part of that story agreed with what the manager told police. He said there was an immediate disruption when she walked in and ordered a drink. He said he was talking and noticed there was alcohol on her breath and when the drink arrived, she knocked it over and he told her she was shut off. He said she became argumentative but did leave the restaurant before police arrived. He told police to tell the woman she was no longer welcome at Applebee’s and would be charged with trespassing if she returned. Hardy said a check revealed the woman had a suspended license from a prior DUI. “Due to the fact she admitted she drove the car and an independent witness stated that he saw her driving, she was charged with driving on a suspended license [a DUI charge would have needed more evidence]. Hardy said she refused to sign the summons. He said they contacted DCYF and told them she had been driving under the influence on a suspended license with the kids in the car.

DUI AND REFUSAL

Keith Shallcross, 41, of 20 Hopkins St. in Lincoln, was charged with DUI and refusal after Officer Anthony Sassone McHugh responded to an accident at the Hess Gas station on Reservoir Avenue around 5 p.m. Feb. 21. McHugh said one of the drivers appeared drunk and said he “rear-ended” the other car but, in fact, had crashed into her rear passenger side door. McHugh said Shallcross failed a field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters, where he refused a breath test. He was charged and then later released to a sober adult.

Officer Brenda Sirois reported she was on patrol on Reservoir Avenue around 9:40 p.m. Feb. 22 when she saw a car operating erratically and pulled it over near Chelo’s. She said the driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters where he blew a .175 and a .161 blood alcohol content (BAC). Christian A. Hogberg, 26, of 72 Gough Ave. in West Warwick, was charged with DUI and later released to a sober adult.

Officer Dennis Trinh said he and several other officers were doing a DUI enforcement detail Feb. 22 around 12 a.m. when they found an SUV over near Cranston Street and Lincoln Avenue. He said the driver appeared to be under the influence and smelled strongly of alcohol. He sad the man failed a field sobriety test and was taken to headquarters where he registered a .143 and a .141 BAC. Rainiel Robinson Arias, 27, of 93 Stanton St. in Providence, was charged with DUI and later released to a sober adult.
