DISORDERLY

Officer Austin Smith reports he observed a disturbance on Smith Street around 2 a.m. on July 27, around 20 minutes after police had been at the same address to disperse a birthday party of about 100 people. He said he went inside as other officers dispersed the crowd and he informed the homeowner that she would be getting a ticket for excessive noise because this was the second time they warned her. He said her son, who the party was for, became irate and started insisting that police had “no right” to disperse a party at 2 a.m. in a residential neighborhood. He said he explained the situation to the son and he became reasonable and calmed down. Smith said they then heard another man, standing in the middle of the street, screaming at the police using racial epithets and profanity. He said was approached by him and he was advised him that he would be arrested for disorderly conduct, and the man ran away and attempted to jump over a fence. He said the man had to be forcibly subdued and refused to get into the cruiser and had to be pushed inside. He said the suspect continued to abuse him with racial epithets and bang his head and say Smith “was going to be ‘popped’ by him or one of his boys.” He said he refused to provide them with identification but eventually was identified by his passport. Dale Rodriguez, 18, of 945 Dyer Ave. in Cranston, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

UNWELCOME

Officer Austin Smith reports he was dispatched to a home on Evergreen Street around 7 a.m. on July 28, where a woman told him she woke up that morning and found her sister’s ex-boyfriend sleeping on her couch and refusing to leave. She said there was no sign that anything was missing or broken by his entering the house, and she did not want to press charges but just wanted him out of there. She also said she wanted him warned that if he came back he would be arrested for trespassing. Smith said he woke the man up and told him to leave but he refused to get off the couch. He said he was homeless and came in through an open door. Smith said he told him to leave again but only got a blank stare in response. He said he ran a warrant check on the unwanted guest and found he was wanted for failure to appear for a trespassing charge in South Kingstown. Smith reports Jonathan Ferretti, 24, with a last known address of 21 Randell St. in Providence, was later transported to District Court after being warned to stay away from his ex-girlfriend’s sister’s house.
