Cranston woman charged with DUI after four-vehicle crash

A Cranston woman has been charged following a four-vehicle crash last week that caused a tractor-trailer to roll onto a Rhode Island State Police cruiser.

Lauren P. Woodbridge, 22, of 1687 Broad St., is charged with driving under the influence and driving to endanger, resulting in physical injury, in connection with the incident, which occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. May 8 on Route 95 in Providence.

According to state police, Woodbridge was traveling southbound on the highway when she entered a construction zone roughly 300 feet south of exit 22. Her vehicle struck the rear of a crash impact truck at the site before veering left and striking the passenger’s side of the tractor-trailer, police said.

The tractor-trailer was caused to veer right, according to police, and it eventually overturned onto its ride side, landing partially atop a cruiser. The momentum additionally caused the cruiser to strike a construction worker, police said.

Woodbridge and a trooper were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Rhode Island Hospital.

“With the summer approaching and highway construction projects underway, [State Police Superintendent Col. Steven] O’Donnell wants to remind all motorists of the importance of reduced speeds and attentive driving while passing construction work areas,” reads a statement from state police. “The crash truck and state police cruiser that was struck were in place to protect the workers within the construction zone.”

Cranston Animal Shelter receives $3,500 donation from Pet Supplies Plus

The Cranston Animal Shelter recently received a $3,546 donation from Pet Supplies Plus, located at 171 Sockanosset Cross Road in Garden City Center.

During April, the store provided customers with the opportunity to donate money that would be converted to gift cards for the shelter, which is located at 920 Phenix Ave.

“The Cranston Animal Shelter is incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by the general public who contributed to the fundraiser,” Animal Control Officer Patricia Maxwell said. “The shelter will now be able to provide supplies and additional equipment that will enhance the lives of the animals and help them to be more adoptable.”

The shelter, which opened its doors in November 1984, houses stray dogs, cats, and homeless pets. The facility is open to the public, and the adoption hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m.

Those interested in adopting an animal are encouraged to contact the shelter directly or stop by during business hours.

Thank you Cranston Police for being along Cranston Street in the area of Cranston West and Western Hills this week during dismissal time. This is keeping the traffic speed with in safer limits.

You know what they say, Lauren: "Go big or go home'. She now has a great, "I knew I had a drinking problem when..." story for her treatment / AA group. I hope she can straighten out and put this behind her- she has her whole life ahead of her.
