Rhode Island desperately needs Instant Runoff Voting

To the Editor:

Rhode Island has now experienced something extremely unfortunate for two elections in a row. We are about to have a second Rhode Island governor, in a row, whom a majority of Rhode Island voters have voted against. This is not a remotely healthy situation to have.

Fortunately, there is a very easy remedy available. The voting system known as Ranked Choice Voting, Majority Preference Voting, or Instant Runoff Voting – which all are names for the same voting system – would be a major improvement over what we currently have here in Rhode Island.

With modern computer and voting machinery technology, it would be very easy for Rhode Island to make this desperately needed change over to Instant Runoff Voting.

I urge everyone reading this letter to please make a point of learning more about Instant Runoff Voting. After that, please all very seriously consider joining with me in calling for this desperately needed change to our Rhode Island elections process. The integrity of all of our future Rhode Island elections is at stake!
