Roger Williams Park Zoo plans to up the adventure for visitors during April school vacation week.

Starting on Saturday, April 18, the “Flutterby: Butterflies in Bloom” special exhibit, camel rides, and a rock wall will be available from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with last admission at 4:15 p.m. While the camel rides will stay open until Sept. 7, the butterfly exhibit and rock wall are only open until Sunday, April 26 as a special preview before they officially open for the season. There is a nominal fee for each offering in addition to zoo admission, and tickets may be purchased at the admissions gates or at booths located throughout the zoo.

Visitors must be age three or older to participate in the rock wall, and this year guests can purchase multiple climbs that can be used on different days ($5 for one; $10 for three; $20 for eight). Camel rides ($6 per person) and “Flutterby” ($3 per person) are open to all ages, and toddlers ages two and under are admitted to the butterfly exhibit for free. Zoo members receive a $1 discount for each offering.

“Flutterby: Butterflies in Bloom” is located in the greenhouse just before the Big Backyard outdoor play area. When guests enter, they will wander through a picturesque greenhouse filled with hundreds of beautiful North American butterfly species. This special exhibit will be open from April 18-26, and will re-open for its final season from May 23 to Sept. 7.

The seasonal camel rides, operated by Camels Unlimited, will give zoo visitors an unforgettable animal encounter. Guests will experience these majestic creatures like never before, as experts lead them around a track while riding a trained camel. This special offering, located next to the Big Backyard naturescape, will be available from April 18 to Sept. 7.

Rock Spot Climbing’s rock wall will be open in the zoo’s Wilderness Plaza for guests to test their climbing skills. The wall features four sides with varying degrees of difficulty, so anyone can try. This attraction will be open from April 18-26, and will re-open from July to August. Climbers must fill out waivers prior to climbing. Participants ages 17 and younger must have their waiver completed and signed by a parent or legal guardian. The waiver can be completed in advance online at rwpzoo.org/seasonal-offerings.

Roger Williams Park Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April through September, and until 4 p.m. in the winter season; last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Admission is $14.95 for adults, $9.95 for children ages three to 12, and $12.95 for seniors ages 62 and older. Toddlers age two and under and zoo members are admitted for free.
