While most 11-year-olds want cake and ice cream plus cool presents from their friends for their birthday, that wasn’t the case for Chris Piscione of Cranston. Instead, he wanted to shave his head in support and solidarity for kids battling cancer. For his birthday, Chris hosted his very own Buzz Off event with the help of his baseball team, the 2016 Cranston Cal Ripken Baseball 10-year-old state champs. The Buzz Off was at the Mansfield Summer Blast tournament on Saturday, July 9, and all money raised will fund immediate relief initiatives that One Mission, the kids’ cancer support foundation, provides to hospitals in the New England area including Boston Children’s Hospital, The Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Hasboro Children’s Hospital. Chris, along with four of his teammates and their batboy, met in the parking lot between games and let their coach shave each of their heads. Chris was able to raise over $1,300 from his Buzz Off event. (Submitted photos)
