On Friday, Aug. 5, and Saturday, Aug. 6, the Cranston Parks and Recreation Department and Living Arts theatrical program presented their 12th annual production, “The Little Mermaid Jr.” to a full house. The student casts for both shows arrived on Monday, Aug. 1, for their first day of camp, were given their parts after lunch that afternoon, and after a week of hard work every day, presented a full show, complete with speaking, singing, and dancing parts. Director Mike Miele credited the students’ hard work and that of his team of camp counselors for the show’s success. He thanked everyone for their efforts as he introduced the show. “Some of these camp counselors were in the show themselves over the years, some have been with us the entire time we’ve been in existence,” he said. “All of the cast and crew have worked so hard this week. We had auditions at 9 a.m. on Monday morning and started rehearsing that afternoon. We did dancing and blocking rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday, and then added in rehearsals with costumes, lights and sound Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.”
