On Sept. 20 at 6 p.m., the Cranston Historical Society held a 186th birthday celebration honoring Gov. William Sprague IV. Pictured are Civil War artifacts that belonged to Sprague. The artifacts are owned by the Cranston Historical Society and are rarely on display. The portrait of Sprague, who held the rank of brigadier general, hangs on a wall at Sprague Mansion.
