SLEIGH BELLS RING: Janice Pascone, marketing director for Garden City, tests out the Contrabass Chimes that have been added to the gazebo area.

Santa Claus will be arriving at the Gazebo in Garden City Center this Saturday at 11 a.m., and his visit will run until 2 p.m. New this year, children may visit Santa in his log cabin where professional photographs will be available starting at $9.99.

Santa’s cabin is being built by Reeds Ferry Sheds and, as in the past, there will be music, hayrides, trolley rides, face painting, snacks and arts and crafts. The event will be held rain or shine and admission is free, except for the purchase of cookies and hot chocolate, of which proceeds will benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. Guests can also choose to give a donation to The Tomorrow Fund.

Santa will be available for visits and professional photo packages this season on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Shoppers can simply drop in to the cabin or make appointments online at gcc.noerrsanta.com.

Garden City Center has added Contrabass Chimes at the gazebo area. The chimes will provide children and adults an opportunity to enjoy a multi-sensory experience through powerful sounds.

Following Santa’s arrival will be the Holiday Market by Festival Fete. The festive event will be held Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 inside the former Border’s location. The market will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Breakfast with Santa at Newport Creamery will continue this year as families are invited to visit and dine with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. on Dec. 9 and Dec 16. Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras.

The annual holiday strolls will be held on Friday evenings, Dec. 7, 14 and 21 from 5 to 9 p.m. The events will feature special store sales and promotions, a wine tasting at Café Luna from 5 to 6 p.m., ice carving, luminaries, local school choral groups and holiday steel drum music.

As always, Garden City gift cards will be available and Garden City Center will be setting up a second location inside Newport Creamery to sell gift cards from Dec. 1 to 24. The gift card counter will be open seven days a week to provide customers with a convenient place to purchase their gift cards.
