Scores turn out to support ‘Sandra’s Renaissance’

Posted

On Nov 14, approximately 200 people attended “Sandra’s Renaissance: Una Celebrazione Di Amicizia” to benefit the Sandra Fedeli Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Roger Williams Park Casino.

The night was a celebration of the life of Sandra Fedeli, a Rhode Islander and artist who lost her battle with an extremely rare form of cancer at age 37. It raised approximately $20,000, which will go toward helping students at Sandra’s alma mater, Rutgers University, to study in Italy.

The scholarship honors Fedeli’s memory and what she truly loved. She was the first in her family born in the United States, and through the Rutgers Study Abroad Program she forged a deeper bond with the city of Florence and her Italian heritage.

“She returned to Rutgers University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree,” according to a biography of Sandra found on the scholarship fund’s website, www.sandrasrenaissance.org. “The allure of the country and its culture captivated her, and it did not take her long before she was off to Italy once again. Shortly after graduating, she chose to live her dream, and the love affair continued. She was passionate about all that the Italian culture embraced – its history, language, art, film, music, fashion, food and lifestyle.”

“Sandra’s Renaissance” included food, musical entertainment, raffles and a silent auction. Local restaurants, hotels, jewelry makers, artists and others contributed to the evening.

Those interested in donating to the fund may make checks payable to Sandra Fedeli Memorial Scholarship for Study Abroad in Italy, 65 Mystery Farms Drive, Cranston, RI 02921.
