St. David’s on the Hill Church bringing May Breakfast back

St. David’s on the Hill Episcopal Church is well known for its extensive outreach efforts benefiting the surrounding community which involve shared meals.

That focus on food and fellowship has kept the parish community strong for more than 100 years, and on Sunday May 1, St. David’s will be bringing back one of its traditional spring events – the May Breakfast.

Hosted by parishioners Jim and Robyn Ladouceur, the event is sure to again become a tradition. The menu includes eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, coffee, and juice.

“I can assure you, the pancakes being served are not just ordinary pancakes,” Jim said. “Get your taste buds ready. We will be serving plain, blueberry, strawberry, chocolate chip, banana, chocolate chip-banana, Almond Joy, and cinnamon swirl. Cinnamon swirl is the ‘last nail in the coffin.’ At home, I always make this pancake last because it is by far the most decadent pancake you will ever indulge in.”

He is also making sure to provide a gluten-free pancake in any of the desired flavors listed for those who have to modify their diets, and the pancakes will be cooked to order.

After growing up cooking pancakes, cooking for family and friends during big breakfast gatherings with his wife, and even receiving special requests of exotic pancake recipes to try out, Jim knew that he and Robyn were the perfect ones to bring back the tradition of the St. David’s annual May Breakfast.

“I love making pancakes, and I thought that this would make a great fundraiser,” he said. “I have many obligations in life but this is truly one thing I love doing and it isn’t a chore at all. I believe everyone is entitled to have the perfect pancake.”

Father Peter Lane is excited for the event and for the chance to add another fellowship opportunity to the St. David’s calendar.

“Such simple fellowship is at least as important as anything we do as church folk,” he said. “It gives life and joy to our worship and outreach and teaching. It’s the holy glue that holds us all together.”

The St. David’s May Breakfast is open to the community at large and all are welcome to attend. It is being held Sunday, May 1 at St. David’s on the Hill, 200 Meschanticut Valley Parkway, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Tickets are $8 for adults in advance or $9 at the door, $4 for children 10 and under in advance, and $5 at the door.

For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the church office at 401-942-4368.
