Showing no signs of slowing down, the St. Mary’s Feast Society 5.5-Mile Road Race is back again this week for the 43rd consecutive year, going off in conjunction with Knightsville’s famous St. Mary’s Feast.

The Race begins at 5 pm. this July 19, as it continues its run as the second-longest continuously running road race in the state.

Typicall between 150 to 200 participants run in the race each year, but with mild heat in the forecast for that day, the hope is that the turnout trends high.

The race route is the same as in past years, as it begins at the corner of Phenix Ave. and Atwood Ave. at the Stop & Shop, and from there it goes down Phenix. Phenix turns into Natick Ave, and the track goes onto Wheelock, Turner, Cranston Street, back to Atwood Ave. and eventually back to Phenix, where the finish line is at the St. Mary’s Feast Society.

There will be cash prizes awarded for the first three male and female finishers, with first place taking home $150, second place earning $100 and third place leaving with $50. The top three female finishers also get a flower bouquet.

The first-place male and female finishers from Cranston also receive prizes, as does the first finisher who is a member of the St. Mary’s Feast Society. There are also six age categories in which prizes are given out for first place.

There is a junior division for runners 18-and-under, an open division for runners 19-to-39, a Masters division for runners 40-to-49, a senior division for runners 50-to-59, a veteran division for runners 60-to-69 and a Hilltopper division for runners 70-and-above.

All entrants will receive a shirt and food following the race. The cost of entry is $25 the day of the race at the St. Mary’s Feast Society, beginning at 3:30 p.m., with high school runners 18-and-under receiving a discount to $15. Online registration is currently closed.
