(Politically incorrect, raunchy sequel goes astray)

Seth MacFarlane had a clever idea when he created the foul-mouthed talking Teddy bear, but even in the original he pushed the envelop too far.

“Ted 2” goes way too far astray, as he tries to push the envelop even further, writing in way too many profanities and offensive situations that just aren’t that funny.

What could have been a clever idea of Ted getting married and wanting a baby quickly runs out of steam when the State of Massachusetts declares that Ted is not a human but a piece of property.

His best friend John (Marc Wahlberg), himself recently divorced and in a funk, hires a pro bono lawyer trying her first case (Amanda Seyfried), and you just know something is going to happen between them.

Ted and his dippy wife (Jessica Barth) join with John and the lawyer to fight for his civil rights and get the court to agree that he is a person with a soul.

The story is kind of dumb, so MacFarlane fills it with cameos from Jay Leno, Tom Brady, Jimmy Kimmel, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and others. They should all be ashamed of themselves for agreeing to lower themselves to that level of humor. Neeson even has a quick scene after all the credits roll and I was the only one left in the theatre. There were a few funny scenes, but if you have seen the trailer you saw them already.

The conclusion takes place at a comic convention, where Ted is chased by a janitor from Hasbro in a scene that goes on too long, as the movie stretches to an hour and three quarters. How Hasbro ever agreed to allow its name to be used is beyond me. I guess the product placement was the incentive.

Rated R for the constant profanity, crude sexual, racist, homophobic…you name it obscenities, and glorification of drug use.
