Taxpayers left on the hook?

The state can ill afford to make hasty and bad choices if we want it to be pro-business and for the economy to grow. Minor league baseball is not a foundation business that can achieve these goals. However, it will benefit the owners and their supporters.

To truly make Rhode Island attractive for businesses and our citizens, invest in projects that can be built upon. The following investments will have a return for Rhode Islanders and attract viable businesses with good jobs:

• Infrastructure repairs and improvements, e.g. the backside of the train station is a disgrace. Having to use the train recently, I was ashamed to see the disrepair of the station. Not only does it look bad, the holes in the walkways are a safety hazard. If we want to attract people coming into Rhode Island instead of leaving, we need to fix this eyesore.

• Our bridges are in desperate need of repair.

• Our roads are a mess

• Public transportation needs to be improved

One last point: the stadium deal has the aroma of past deals. Only a few people will financially benefit and will be held harmless, and once again the citizens will be left on the hook. We can’t afford to continue to have the government of Rhode Island perceived as incapable of making sound economic decisions and the aroma of corruption in the air.
