The theme of this year’s season performance was “Glee-k Out at the YMCA!” held on Aug. 3 in the multi-purpose room of the Cranston YMCA. Throughout the summer, the YMCA has held camp sessions in the area of performance, dance and tumbling arts. The “Glee-k Out” performance was a culmination of skills learned in summer camps at the YMCA.
Campers chose rock songs from the ’80s that are featured on the popular TV series “Glee.” The campers spent two weeks learning song lyrics, creating choreography and props, and learning stage direction. On average, four hours a day were spent preparing for the performance with specialty instructors. In attendance were parents, family, friends and YMCA staff to encourage and support their campers while they showed off their new moves.
The YMCA offered Dance & Tumbling Camp, which introduced gym moves such as tumbling and cartwheels, as well as floor routines, including dance styles for girls and boys. The Performance Arts Camp offered teens a chance to fine-tune their dance and singing talents.
