The Cranston Community Players held auditions for their upcoming production of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town.”

The CCRI Players presented “The Teahouse of the August Moon” at the Knight Campus in Warwick.

The Moscow State Ballet and Orchestra presented “Nutcracker” at Vets, with over 75 Russian artists and 300 costumes.

The Warwick Area Career and Technical Center’s International Café offered luncheons to the public. Beef stew was $3.75. The most expensive menu item was veal scaloppini for $5.95.

Zuohuang Chen submitted his resignation as director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

Remember Quahogs on Masthead Drive in Warwick? It was one of the few places you could get a hot lobster roll.

Remember Faye’s Place on Broad Street in South Providence? The blackboard menu featured Cajun Shrimp Parmesan ($7.95) and, my favorite, BBQ meatloaf with fried cabbage, red beans and rice and corn bread ($5.95).

Remember “Quila,” the Mexican restaurant across from Rhode Island Mall? We now have a plethora of Mexican restaurants in the area.

How about Papa Joe’s on Airport Road? The Friday luncheon special was linguine with clam sauce for $2.99.

And then there was Shooters on India St. in Providence, where a full course dinner for two was only $19.95 ($14.95 for seniors). Their Sunday morning all-you-can-eat brunch was $9.95.

Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels starred in “Dumb and Dumber,” one of the dumbest movies of the century.

Jodie Foster gave an outstanding performance in the lead role in “Nell,” one of the few films we christened with a five star rating.

The Rockettes starred in a wonderful Radio City Music Hall Spectacular at PPAC.

Cranston’s Cecelia Rodi starred in a wonderful production of a new operatic version of Ocean State Light Opera’s “Amahl and the Night Visitors” at the Wheeler School. Also in the cast were Edgar Edwards of Warwick and Edgar Staff of Cranston.

And finally, First Night celebrated its 10th anniversary. Joyce proudly wore a sash with all 10 buttons. The RI Philharmonic performed at the Vets, there were afternoon family events at the Convention Center and “First Fire,” and Barnaby Evans’ early version of WaterFire at Waterplace.
